Comix Chix Comics Picks: 2 October

cbldf annual 2013Can you believe that October is almost here?!? (We sure can’t!) Our picks for the first week of October range from an important industry anthology to a classic, with an indie favorite thrown in for flavor:

CBLDF Liberty Annual 2013 (Image Comics) — For the second year in a row, Image Comics (the leader in indie, creator owned super-series) is set to release the annual anthology to benefit the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. With stories and art from renowned artists such as Richard Corben, Tim Seeley and others, this anthology takes on topics political, sexual, fantastical and silly in the name of protecting the First Amendment rights of all comics creators. It would be unpatriotic to miss out on picking up this book… so do it for ‘Murica! 😉

Thor by Walter Simonson Vol 2 TPB (Marvel Comics) — If you’ve ever asked yourself “who wrote/drew the definitive Thor?” the answer is simple: Walter Simonson, one of the nicest and most legendary men in comics. A few years ago Marvel released a massive hard cover omnibus of Simonson’s Thor (which is ah-maze-balls, frankly). Now they are releasing it in trade paperback volumes for those who can’t afford the shocking $150 cover price of the HC. Danke, Marvel! If you’re a fan of Thor or The Avengers, these are a must have.

Molly Danger Book 1 HC (Jamal Igle/Action Lab) — Funded through Kickstarter, Molly Danger is a self-published title by Jamal Igle. Molly is the “most powerful 10-year old superhero in the world” and is smart, brave and strong – an AMAZING comics role model for little girls everywhere. If you have a daughter, niece or little girl in your life this is the perfect title to pick up for her. Adults also love Molly Danger, so give it a read yourself!
